The news is out! Laurent van Lerberghe and I have launched KELES, a new VC firm that will back the most promising digital health companies in Europe. I have spent decades on the frontline of technology-driven efforts and venture capital investment decisions to address the biggest challenges facing global healthcare. It’s clear that we’ve reached an inflection point in the market. Now is the moment to strategically inject capital into the European ecosystem to unlock urgently needed-growth. Whilst Europe is brimming with innovation, access to the capital needed for healthtech companies to scale at speed and succeed on a global scale remains limited. KELES is committed to bridging this gap, investing in proven solutions across research and development, diagnostics, and patient care. It made perfect sense to partner with Laurent to launch and manage KELES, on account of our complementary experiences, skillsets and networks that extend across several continents. We both have a strong track record of venture investments and M&A, and a shared mission to build global champions from European innovators. Our fund KELES SICAV-RAIF has been established in Luxembourg, and we will also have bases in Paris, London and Brussels. We are on track for first close in Q1 of 2025. Digital Health ventures in #Europe have managed to maintain a steady level of #funding stress, with 42% of growth-stage ventures securing funding in the past 18 months (typical funding #runway) as of H1 2024. However, early-stage and Series A ventures are under significant #pressure, with only 27% successfully raising #capital during the same period. On a global scale, the #US's funding activity for Growth-Stage ventures has improved over the past two quarters, now matching Europe's #performance in Q2 2024. In contrast, #Asia ventures are experiencing considerable funding #stress, with just 28% of growth-stage ventures securing funding in the last 18 months.
